German coach congrats Cuba for the victory

Havana, Cuba, June 12, 2010 - Cuba finished with a clean sweep of Germany in the second weekend of the FIVB World League at Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum, a result Cuban coach Orlando Samuels said was fair.

“It was a much higher game level yesterday, either team could win any of the first two sets. Germany played very well the third and won it clearly, but lowered the level in the fourth and we worked on blocking, defense and counterattack."

"The World League is a very special competition where all opponents are difficult, we must continue to improve, and we know we have to play much better in Germany."

German coach Raúl Lozano stated that his team played a better game, but it was not enough. “Especially in situations of attack and under the net in general. As a team we have to play better in attack and blocking, something that we could not do this weekend."

"Always, when playing without the usual level, it is necesary to think about the merits of our adversaries and the inaccuracy that we had."

“The game was more even, better for us, but Cuba prevailed in the level of attack and block. I hope Germany can return the same hospitality extended to us in Cuba and maybe we can play our best back there. I have to again congratulate them because they played best."

Cuban captain Robertlandy Simón said the game was interesting from the beginning. “We knew it would be more difficult than before, despite having gained the victory. We have two tough games against Poland in Havana next weekend and we will search for victories here, because then we expect three difficult series away from home."

Finally, German captain Andrae Bjorn expressed his thoughts about the game: “We played much better than on Friday. In the second set we had the chance of winning, but it was not until the third that we played as we wanted. In the fourth set we made many mistakes because we lingered to long in expectation of action by the Cubans and did not take advantage of our strengths and just let the Cubans play."
