France win final battle with China

Despite a number of powerful attacking plays from China, France saw out the win in their final match of this year's competition
Wuhan, China, July 10, 2010 - France ended their 2010 FIVB World League campaign with a thrilling 3-2 (25-16, 18-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-8) win over China to finish third in Pool B.

France took the early lead in the first set thanks to their strong offence and pushed ahead with a solid great advantage. Despite fighting back China lost their rhythm and saw the visitors take the first set win.

Improvement in service and blocking saw the home side break away in the second set as France struggled to fight through the stubborn Chinese defence helping the Asian side bring the scores even.

China started the third well leaping to a three point lead until a number of unforced errors allowed the visitors to gradually bring the scores closer. However, China came back seized many opportunities to go ahead to the winset.

Both sides continued to struggle in the fourth with the scores remaining close for most of the set. However despite Shen Qiong's powerful attack, the hosts could not see out the match as France took the match to a fifth set.

France picked up the lead in the fifth and carried it through till the end of the set to pick up their fifth win of this year's tournament while China prop up the pool with just one victory.
