Italy claim victory over China

Gabriele Maruotti and Emanuele Birarelli's double block for Italy against China as the visitors picked up their seventh win of the 2010 FIVB World League on Friday afternoon
Wuhan, China, July 2, 2010 - Italy overcame China 3-0 (25-20,25-22, 25-20) in their 2010 FIVB World League Pool B clash in Wuhan to take top spot in the group ahead of Serbia by one point.

Italy now has seven wins in the competition to two defeats while China have just one win to their name, with eight defeats, leaving them at the bottom of the pool.

China started well in the first set with Weijun Zhong helping the home side to an early lead. However Italy gradually found their rhythm as the two sides went point to point. However the visitors gained four points in a row to clinch the set to take an early lead.

Despite a few mistakes from China at the beginning of the second set, the side rallied and took the lead early in the second set. Italy drew level again but China's poor block allowed the European team to take the lead and they eventually picked up the second set.

The third set saw an error strewn start from both sides, with neither one managing to find a foothold. However Italy eventually regained control and stormed ahead to win the set and with that, the match.

The two sides will meet again on Saturday in Wuhan at 7:10pm local time with a Final Round spot still on the line for Serbia and Italy in Pool B.
