Poland complete sweep of Argentina

The Polish block was key in their victory over Argentina on Sunday

Wroclaw, Poland, June 27, 2010 – Poland beat Argentina once again on Sunday as the European Champions fought out a 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25- 21) win in their 2010 FIVB World League encounter.

Poland now sit second in Pool D while Argentina occupy the bottom spot.

Bartosz Kurek of Poland was the top scorer of the match with 19 points. Rodrigo Quiroga led the visitors with 16 points in a match in which Poland out-blocked Argentina 17-6. Polish libero Piotr Gacek was given the MVP trophy.

Daniel Castellani decided to start the game with Pawel Zagumny, Daniel Plinski and Michal Bakiewicz in the line up and Poland led 8-7 at the first technical time. However Poland couldn't find their rhythm in attack and Argentina showed took advantage of the counter attack took win the first set 25-22.

The hosts started the second set extremely motivated and finally found their rhythm to see out the set 25-17.

Castellani's team took a 12-8 lead in the third set but Argentina leveled the scores at 16-16. However Jakub Jarosz helped the home side see out the set with a spike from the right wing.

The home side wasn't able to carry the momentum through to the fourth set and was unexpectedly trailing by four points at the second technical time out. However Poland stayed calm, took advantage of their experience and a number of easy mistakes from the Argentineans to close out the game 25-21.

Poland now move to Lodz where they will host Cuba next Saturday and Sunday. Argentina continue their European campaign with a match in Berlin against Germany on Wednesday and Thursday.
