Brazil overcome stubborn Dutch side in Rotterdam

Dante celebrates as Brazil overcome the Netherlands in their third 2010 FIVB World League encounter
Rotterdam, the Netherlands, June 26, 2010 - Brazil claimed an important victory over the Netherlands in Saturday's Pool A 2010 FIVB World League match as the defending champions beat the hosts 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16) in Rotterdam.

The visitors began the match in convincing style with a lot of serving pressure and solid middle attacks. Despite the Netherlands piling on the pressure towards the end of the set outside hitter Murilo Endres spiked to see Brazil take a 1-0 lead.

The second set began with a solid effort from both teams but Brazil upped their defence to score on the counter attack. Dutchman Wytze Kooistra helped bring his side back into the game with some powerful attacks before some clever and quick attacks from outside hitters Murilo Endres and Giba saw the Brazilians reclaim the lead. However an ace from middle blocker Wytze Kooistra saw the home side claim the second set 25-23.

The third set saw the Netherlands take an early lead before Brazil fought back to bring the tighten the scores. But a good spike from Dutch outside hitter Dick Kooy saw his side take a 22-20 lead. Both teams put on a great show for the enthusiastic home crowd, but with a huge kill block from Murilo Endres and a last spike from Brazilian middle blocker Lucas saw the visitors take the third set 26-24.

Middle blocker Sidão came on for Lucas Saatkamp in the fourth set for Brazil and Dante Amaral kept up the rhythm to show that he is of much value to Brazil, scoring a number of impressive points. The Netherlands made a lot of errors in the fourth set and Brazil took full advantage to remain in control for the rest of the set to pick up the match.

The two sides are set to clash again on Sunday at 1pm GMT with Pool A far from decided.
