France beat Italy in Paris

A well aimed spike helped France see out the game against Italy on Friday night in Paris

ParisFrance, June 25, 2010 - France clinched their second victory in the 2010 FIVB World League on Friday night with a 3-2 (19-25, 25-29, 25-20, 17-25, 15-13) victory over Italy in Paris.

The second match will be played on Sunday in Toulouse at 6pm local time.

Italy had a good start in the first set leading early on before France coach Philippe Blain made a few substitutions. France was more aggressive and succeeded in coming back into the set before Italy fought back again to secure the set.

Both teams were even in the second before Italy took the lead and held it to bring the scores even.

France regained the lead in the third with a sublime attacking display, maintaining their momentum throughout.

Italy built up an early lead in the fourth, taking advantage of a number of French mistakes to make sure the game went to a tie-break in an already tense encounter.

Both teams were even in the tie-break before Italy took the lead and nearly the match. However France equalized at 12-12 before a well aimed spike sealed the match.
