Russia overcome Egypt in straight sets to remain unbeaten

Russia line up ahead of their win over Egypt on weekend four of the 2010 FIVB World League

Cairo, Egypt, June 25, 2010- Russia took advantage of a number of defensive errors to beat Egypt in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) to remain unbeaten in the 2010 FIVB World League on Friday night in Cairo.

The victory took Russia to a win–loss record of 7-0 as Egypt slumped to their sixth defeat in seven matches in this year's tournament.

Maxim Mikhaylov led the scorers with 16 points as Egyptian Ahmed Salah led the hosts with 15 points.

The first set began with a high tempo from both sides as Russia took the lead early on. Defensive and serve errors saw them maintain the lead before taking the first set 25-18.

Russia kept up their solid attack before Salah helped see Egypt regain the lead in the second. However the Russians regained their dominance and an excellent blocking game saw them go 2-0 up.

Despite a number of Egyptian substitutions, last year's bronze medalists continued to take control of the match and eventually saw out the set and the game easily.

The two sides will meet again on Saturday at 5pm GMT with Russia moving ever closer to a Final Round place in Pool C.
