Win puts Poland 2nd in Pool D

Bartosz Kurek attacks over the Venezuelan double block

La Guaira, Venezuela, June 21, 2009 - Poland imposed itself on Venezuela with effective services and strong organization to win the second match between the teams during Pool D action at the Polideportivo José María Vargas in La Guaira.

The Polish team won 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-18) and rose to second place in the group with two victories, two defeats and 5 points.

Both teams made changes in their lineups from their first match on Friday.

In the first set, Poland relied on its serves to dominate the Venezuelans, who compromised its aspirations with mistakes in reception. The visitors were never behind on the scoreboard. In addition, they looked effective in their defense and in the attack thanks to Jakub Jarosz and Bartosz Kurek.

The Polish team had very little difficulty dominating the second period. Without a lot of effort, the Europeans imposed their play on Venezuela, who had no answer to the onslaught. The hosts failed in reception again and in the distribution of the balls, which made it that much easier on the visitors.

The third and last set was a copy of the second one. Venezuela tried to snap out of its funk using its supporting cast. Rodman Valera took charge of the distribution of the balls, Luis Díaz and Thomas Ereú attacked from the corners and captain Andy Rojas returned for the reception. But the local inspiration was soon finished and Poland again put its service to good use to win comfortably for the second straight match in Venezuala.
