Poland overcome Argentina to win first 2010 World League match

Jarosz, Poland's top scorer, spikes against Argentina in their first win of the 2010 FIVB World League

San Juan, Argentina, June 11, 2010 – Poland claimed their first victory in the 2010 FIVB World League with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 20-25, 25-20) win over Argentina on Friday night in San Juan, Argentina.

Jarosz Jakub topped the scores for the visitors with 26 points while Lucas Ocampo scored 16 for the host side.

After an even start Poland pulled ahead to pick up the first set, Jarosz helping the side with seven points.

Despite an Argentina fight back in the second Poland used their momentum to gain the lead and the second set.

The third set saw the home team advance to an early 9-7 before going on to take the game to 2-1.

Both teams put a stubborn fight at the beginning of the fourth set however the visitors saw out the victory and their first three points in the competition with an impressive display.

"We worked to change what happened in Germany and we trained very hard during this week," Poland coach Daniel Castellani said following the match. "Argentina did not play as well as they know and we are aware that tomorrow will be a completely different match."

The two sides are set to clash again on Saturday at 9:10 pm local time in San Juan.
