Bulgaria prepare for Asian invasion

Captain Vladimir Nikolov (middle) and star Matey Kaziyski (right) are convinced that they can top their FIVB World League pool
Varna, Bulgaria, June 24, 2010 – Thousands of Volleyball fans have bought tickets for Bulgaria’s first home match of the 2010 FIVB World League as the side prepare to face Korea in Varna on Saturday.

It is the first time Silvano Prandi's players return to the country to play after their 2009 European Championship bronze medal win.

After two defeats against Brazil and four victories in a row in Korea and the Netherlands the hosts will be looking to claim Pool A in their next three home matches in the Intercontinental Round.

“We are not in the best shape yet, but we will be,”
Bulgaria's Matey Kaziyski said. “Hopefully the point we stole in Brazil will help us qualify. However we will do what is necessary to go to the Finals. We have the greatest crowd ever and we are nothing but Proud to be Bulgarian and to win for our country“, Kaziyski said.

“There is some tension from the obligation to win,” Prandi added. “Korea is tough opponent and we will not underestimate their qualities. I believe in my boys and we will win.”

The Koreans arrived in Varna four days ago. Fully armed with their best players, the Asian team has been training since Monday and believe they could bring a nasty surprise for the home crowd and pick up their first win in this year’s tournament.

The match kicks off at 6pm local time.
