Germany planning to take their second chance

Cuban Isbel Mesa and German Robert Kromm figthing above the net

Trier, Germany, June 26, 2010 - Three matches, three defeats: these are the scores of the German team against Cuba. At the fourth match the victory shall finally happen and with 3:0 or 3:1 the Germans can still be able to move to the top of the group.

 

The statistics give hope to the German team: 0:3, 1:3 and 2:3 are the results of this year’s World League. Following this the victory in the fourth match is logical but for that is has to happen: “We can and have to play on an even higher level especially in service but also in reception and attack“, Germany’s head coach Raúl Lozano said. And his middle blocker Marcus Böhme added: “We have to try to put more pressure with our service. That way we obtain that Cuba has to play higher balls and avoid attacks by Simón. The Cuban captain was the most important player in the young Caribbean team. The 2,06m giant did not only convince in attack and block but also showed a good performance in defence. 

 

Even though not everything went perfectly for the Cubans, the team captain was very satisfied with his young teammates. “We made many errors in attack but still we played the best match of this year's World League.”

 

The second match in Trier on June 26 (14:00 local time) between the group leader Cuba (15 points) and the second-ranked Germany (13 points) will be interesting to watch as both teams really want the victory. "It is very important for the qualification to the Final Round," Cuba's captain Simón stated, especially because both teams will still have to play European champions Poland.
