Italy and Serbia to battlle for top spot in Pool B

Gabriele Maruotti and Simone Parodi celebrate last week's victory against China in Ancona
Montecatini, Italy, June 16, 2010 - Italy are set to face Serbia in the third weekend of the 2010 FIVB World League on Friday in Montecatini and on Sunday in Florence and will be looking to pick up their fifth in a row victory after wins over France and China in Pool B.

Both sides have four victories in four matches but the Igor Kolacevic’s team is on the top of the standing with 12 points while Italy are on 11.

Italy have played Serbia 44 times with Serbia ahead with 24 wins. In the World League, Italy have won eight matches against the Serbians in 18 games.

"I have tried to play with new players in the last match” Italy coach Andrea Anastasi said. “I’m very happy for this success. This is a great group. Now we have two important matches against Serbia and we must keep high our mind.”

Igor Kolakovic said that matches against Italy are always special: “I think that now they consider us much more seriously than before, after our results in the World League. We have a young team, but our performances in this World League and our work give us chances, maybe, to try to surprise our opponents in Italy.”
