   Profile

Outside hitter Matthew (Matt) Anderson was born April 18, 1987 in Buffalo, N.Y. He grew up in West Seneca, N.Y. The outside hitter (204cm, 86kg) made his debut with the U.S. National Team for the 2009 World League and started the first six matches before falling ill with a serious case of pneumonia. He did not play again with the team in a major tournament in 2009, although he did play during a five-match exhibition tour in Brazil.

Matt finished 2009 sixth on the team in scoring with 71 points in 21 sets (3.38 points per set). He averaged 2.9 kills per set with a hitting percentage of 0.419.

Prior to joining the National Team, Anderson led his college volleyball team at Penn State University to the 2008 NCAA National Championship. Anderson was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament and also the American Volleyball Coaches Association co-Player of the Year. He then made news by leaving college early to play for Korea’s Hyundai Capital Skywalkers. He played for the team again in the winter of 2009, but left early due to injury.

Anderson played on the U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team in 2005 and the U.S. Junior Men’s National Team in 2006 and 2007. He is single.
