Middle blocker Andrew (Andy) Hein was born on July 1, 1984 in Hinsdale, Ill. He grew up in Carol Stream, Ill. The middle blocker (208 cm, 105 kg) joined the National Team in 2007. Hein was named captain of the U.S. team at the 2008 Pan American Cup leading the to a gold medal team.
Since his debut year with the National Team, Andy has had a hand in helping the U.S. to the silver medal at the 2009 NORCECA Continental Championship. He was also a member of the 2010 FIVB World Championship Qualifier for NORCECA Group F Gold Medal team and finished the tournament as the team’s second leading blocker and tied for ninth among scorers with 19 points on 15 blocks and four kills.
Hein spent the 2009-2010 winter playing for Changos De Naranjito in the Puerto Rican men’s league.
The Pepperdine graduate helped to lead his collegiate team to the 2005 NCAA National Championship. In 2006, Hein led the nation in hitting percentage (.516) and garnered himself a position on the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American team. Andy is single.
