Middle blocker Ryan Millar was born Jan. 22, 1978 in San Dimas, Calif. He grew up in Palmdale, Calif., and now lives in Alpine, Utah.
Millar (204cm, 98kg) joined the U.S. National Team in 1999 and was a starter right away. He is a three-time Olympian, having competed at the 2000 Olympic Games, the 2004 Olympic Games and the 2008 Olympic Games where the U.S. won the gold medal. He was also a member of the U.S. World League team that won the gold medal in 2008. At the 2008 Olympic Games, Millar was eighth among all scorers with 97 points on 66 kills, 26 blocks and five aces. Ryan's 26 blocks put him fourth among all blockers with an average of 0.79 per set. He took the 2009 season off from indoor competition. Millar played college volleyball for Brigham Young University and led it to its first NCAA national title in 1999. In 2006, Millar served as BYU’s interim co-head coach. But he left the school at the end of the season to focus on the U.S. National Team.
He has played club volleyball the last two winters in Turkey. He is married to wife Suzanne and has a son, Max, born in 2006.
