The opposite João Paulo had his first experience with Brazil’s national team in 2000, when, defending the Youth team, he won the South American Championship. In 2002, playing for the Junior Team, João Paulo won the South American Championship title and clinched the silver medal in the FIVB Junior World Championship. In 2005, he took part in the Senior team who won the FIVB World League. Last year, he was part of the men's national team's successes, winning the FIVB World League, the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup and the South American Championship.
