Giba was the best player of the Olympic Games in Athens, in 2004, when Brazil won their second olympic title. He won the FIVB World Cup in 2003, and six World League titles (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007). He played for the Junior Brazilian team, winning the South American Championship (94), and finishing second at the FIVB Junior World Championship (95). In the Youth Brazilian Team, he won the FIVB World Championship, in 93. He got the Superliga 99/00 and 00/01 titles. In the last season, he played for Iskra Odintsovo, from Russia. He was World Champion twice, respectively in 2002 and 2006. In this last competition, he was the best player. In 2007, he won the Pan-American Games, in Rio de Janeiro, where he was the captain of the Brazilian team. The same year, he clinched the gold medal at the South American Championship, and was elected best player of the competition. In the FIVB World Cup, one more time, he returned home with the gold and was elected main star of the competition. In 2008, he was silver medallist at Beijing Olympic Games and was elected best server of the FIVB World League. In 2009, Giba led Brazil’s renewed team to the FIVB World League, the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup and the South American Championship.
