Cuba ready for another run at World League title

Media and other guests attend the World League press conference in Havana, Cuba
Havana, Cuba, June 9, 2009 - The Cuban Volleyball Federation officially kicked off the 20th edition of the World League with a press conference attended by the federation president and national team players.

Cuban Federation President and former player Raul Diago thanked the organizing committee for its efforts in arranging all the details of the event, which starts next Friday with four games.

Diago expressed his hopes of holding a beautiful spectacle in Cuba, whose team has participated 18 times in the World League.     

Posters, magazines and World League schedules were given to the media and other guests at the presentation, which took place at the Melia Havana Hotel.

Cuban National Team members Roberlandy Simon (captain), Odelvis Dominico, Keibel Gutierrez and Yoandy Leal emphasized their determination to put in a good performance at the tournament.

Cuba shares Pool C with Russia - bronze medalist at the Beijing Olympic Games and in last season's World League - Bulgaria and Japan. Up first for Cuba will be matches against Bulgaria.
