Netherlands Captain Jeroen Trommel: It’s too bad we couldn’t win the second set. I thought our level was much better than it was in China. We have to improve our level every week. We create chances but we don’t take them. As long as we create opportunities, we have a chance to win.
U.S. Captain Tom Hoff: Netherlands turned it up a notch in the second set. Their serve put pressure on us. We don’t see that level of serving in our gym consistently. It was great to see that from a team as physical as Netherlands. Toward the end, I thought we controlled the ball better.
Netherlands Head Coach Peter Blange: I’m happy with the play. Our level was more than acceptable. We missed too many points to make it difficult for the U.S. team. Obviously we still have more progress to make in ball-handling skills. When the score is over 20, the U.S. is much more determined and secure in their play than we are.
U.S. Head Coach Aland Knipe: I thought the match was hard-fought. Both teams are capable of playing better. Netherlands put a lot of pressure on us with its serve. I thought it was good that we stayed poised and gave ourselves opportunities to stay in the game.
