Liévin, France, July 5, 2009 - France did not succeed to take the victory for the last match in France this FIVB World League 2009. France. Logically, Serbia took three more points to consolidate its first position in the group B. Like in Paris, two days ago, Serbia won in 4 sets (25-16, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20).
In Bercy, or the “Stade couvert de Liévin”, Serbia kept the superiority to dominate the hosts. Serbian made the difference form the start to manage easily the first set. Serbia was leading 8-5 at the first TTO. The gap increased to 5 points at the second TTO; 16-11. France came back to 13-16 but Kolakovic players were not anxious. The results table pointed out that the first set will be in favour of Serbia: Grbic teammates were leading 20-13 and logically concluded the set 25-16 in 20 minutes.
Local fans were hoping for a reaction from France but it never came. France was not able to react in this 8th game of this FIVB World League 2009. Blain did many changes but Serbia played efficient volley-ball, enough to dominate the hosts. France cracked up quickly in the second set totally controlled by Serbia squad. The Blus had no solutions to compete their opponents. After 21 minutes, Serbia took a double advantage: 25-14.
Like in Paris on Friday, France had to wake up tonight in Liévin. And the Blus took a better start. French captain, Stéphane Antiga won the first point with a perfect block. France added points to lead 3-0 and later 8-6. Serbia equalized 8-8. But Philippe Blain players took benefit of their good start to secure this third set 25-21.
Could it be the same scenario than in Paris? French players stayed close their opponents and was just behind (7-8) at the first TTO. But Antonin Rouzier, Romain Vadeleux and Oliver Kieffer found solutions to take the lead: 12-11 after Vadeleux special service, a “roucoulette” to lead 13-11. France attempted, the second TTO with 1 point advantage; 16-15. France led 17-15 but Serbia added three points in a row: Philippe Blain took a time-out but Serbia couldn’t not be stopped tonight: Serbian finished the match 25-20.
