Jiangning, China, July 5, 2009 – Despite tough resistance, the Chinese National Team lost the second match of a two-game series against the USA on Sunday.
The USA showed their powerful dominance and championship colors tonight, while the Chinese were inconsistent in losing 1-3 (18-25, 25-20, 21-25, 12-25).
In the first set, the USA team played quite well in blocking, while the Chinese didn’t dominate in serving like they did a day earlier. Although China held an 8-6 lead to the first TTO, the team USA got back later to win the first set in 25-18 despite of 2 TOs by China Team.
The second set displayed conversed situation compared to the first set. The Chinese team improved in serving and spiking while the USA team didn’t stay focus after the easy winning in the first set. The Chinese team dominated the set with 8-5 at the 1st TTO, 16-11 at the 2nd TTO, and won in 25-20.
Set three became the turning point for both teams. The Chinese team led most of the time and even held a 16-13 lead at the 2nd TTO, but they made several mistakes in reception at the final moment after 20-20. Patak Evan helped team USA with his powerful service and crushed the Chinese team for a victory of 25-21.
Team USA kept on firing in service and spiking in the 4th set, while the young Chinese team displayed their inconsistence and made enormous errors in the last set. Such gap of the performance guaranteed the victory of USA and the game ended 12-25.
The new start list of team USA today was not a surprise for the Chinese team. However, the Chinese team didn’t work out the right resolution and was crushed by team USA. The best players of USA team are Patak Evan, who made 22 spike attempts and 12 points, and Hein Andrew, who made 8 block attempts and 3 points. The Chinese team did not play well in serving and receiving, and made quite many errors which gave the USA 29 points.
The China team will have a week to adjust before playing their second opponent, the Netherlands team next week in Jiangning, China.
