Back-to-back matches against China in Verona will open the Italian campaign in the 2009 World League this weekend.
After China, Andrea Anastasi's team will face the Netherlands and United States.
The national team held a training camp at the team's headquarters in Mantova, following the Italian championship.
For the first match of the season, Anastasi called on several options: Giacomo Sintini and Dragan Travica; Mauro Gavotto and Michal Lasko; Emanuele Birarelli, Francesco Fortunato, Cosimo Marco Piscopo and Andrea Sala, Matej Cernic, Matteo Martino, Simone Parodi and Cristian Savani as spikers, while Andrea Bari and Loris Manià are the liberos.
"I am happy about the progress we made during those weeks in Mantova," Anastasi said. "Birarelli completes our group, while Valerio Vermiglio will join us in the second part of the 2009 World League. We are quite fit and confident considering the quality of the tournament. We consider this tournament to be a step on the road to the 2010 World Championship."
