Russia overpower Serbia and Montenegro in straight sets

The Russian team celebrate

Serbia and Montenegro captain Nikola Grbic: "We were physically present on the court, but our minds were somewhere else. I hope we will play better tomorrow. We made too many mistakes and were too nervous."

Serbia and Montenegro head coach Ljubomir Travica: "This was a very tough game for us and we knew that Russia would play well in front of their home crowd."

Russia's captain Konstantin Ushakov: "We are glad to kick off the Final Rounds with a victory, especially as we lost the last three matches in the competition. We were a bit more nervous than usual, which is why we made more errors."

Russia's head coach Zoran Gajic: "I'm glad we won, as we lost the past three games before the finals. I can see the team won the match to save energy for subsequent matches. We had half the number of errors of Serbia and Montenegro, which was the key to our victory."
