FIVB World League 2006

Match Preview

France and Italy meet for the fifth time in the 2006 World League

Italy's head coach Gianpaolo Montali

Moscow, 23 August 2006 - Wild card Italy will face France in the second match on the first day of the 2006 World League Final Round at Moscow's Luzhniky stadium. Pool C winner France surprised the eight-times World Leage champion during the Intercontinental Rounds, dropping only one of its four matches against the azzuri. After finishing a point behind Russia in third place in the pool, Italy nevertheless secured a place in the finals as FIVB Wild Card and after France will face defending champions Brazil and Bulgaria.

In the first of the cross-over Final Round matches, Italy as bottom-seed of Pool F will meet fourth-seed France at the bottom of Pool E. Both teams are suffering from injuries, with Italy in particular missing Alberto Cisolla, their star player from Sisley Treviso.
