Italy's last chance against Bulgaria

Top scorer Alessandro Fei from Italy
Moscow, 25 August 2006 - Italy need a win against an in-form Bulgaria in today's first match if Gianpaolo Montali's team are to stay in the running in this year's World League Final Round. Beset by injury problems, compounded by the loss of libero Mirko Corsano yesterday, the odds are stacked against the Italians. Furthermore, Bulgaria has notched up two victories in its first two matches and is the only team yet to concede a set in the tournament.

Martin Stoev's young Bulgarian side have functioned well as a collective in their two matches so far and once again topped the tables for best spikers, blockers and setters as a team after the second day's action. It is, however, Italy's Alessandro Fei who retains the honour as the tournament's top scorer, with a total of 46 points off 39 spikes and seven blocks - 12 points clear of his closest rival, France's Sebastien Ruette.
