Russia take on France for the fifth time

The Russian team focus on the task ahead

Moscow, 24 August 2006 - Russia will today take on France for the fifth time in this year's competition, as the hosts welcome the Pool C winner. The two teams split their home and away doubles in the Intercontinental Rounds and France caused the first upset in the tournament by beating Russia in five sets in its opening away match.

With both teams knowing each other from the Intercontinental Rounds, a tactical match is ensured and the head coaches gave little away in yesterday's press conference. When quizzed on a possible change of tactics against France after beating Serbia and Montenegro, Russia's head coach Zoran Gajic simply replied "No".

France's head coach Philippe Blain even seemed to have his sights already set beyond pool play, saying that his team had not just come to participate, but was aiming for a place in the semi-finals.
