Serbia and Montenegro face Bulgaria

Bulgaria's captain Plamen Konstantinov was the best receiver in yesterday's matches

Moscow, 24 August 2006 - Bulgaria are the team to beat after the first day of pool play and Serbia and Montenegro could be a contender to do so. The Balkan side put up a strong fight against hosts Russia yesterday, with the final score of 3-0 to Russia hardly doing justice to the level of play demonstrated by both sides.

Bulgaria's coach Martin Stoev remained confident after yesterday's match, saying that his team would meet Brazil again in the competition, but today's match against an in-form Serbia and Montenegro, who topped the closely-contested Pool A in the Intercontinental Rounds, could still prove a challenge.

The Bulgarian side fielded the best spikers, blockers and setters according to the statistics from yesterday's play, but the same statistics show that Serbia and Montenegro's powerful serving (in their match with Russia, both teams served up three aces) could pose a threat.

TV interest for the match is astonishingly high, since it will be broadcast live in 58 countries by nine TV channels and will also be transmitted live to various radio stations worldwide.
