Wild card Italy faces top-seeded Brazil

Brazil will need a coordinated effort against Italy

Moscow, 24 August 2006 - The defending World League champions will be looking to be more alert and focused today as they face the wild card Italy in today's first match in Moscow's Luzhniky sports hall. The after-effects of a near 24-hour flight and a 6am arrival in Russia clearly showed in Bernardo Rezende's team yesterday, as Bulgaria convincingly swept them aside 3-0. Italy, on the other hand, had to endure yet another five-setter against France, losing 2-3 after a French assault in the fourth and tie-break sets.

The last World League encounter between the two teams was in the 2004 gold medal match, which Brazil won 3-1 to take their second title in a row. With Italy ahead of Brazil in the Pool F standings, thanks to the five sets against France, Bernardinho will be looking for a clear victory today to kick-start his campaign four a fourth title.
