FIVB World League 2006
Brazil wins fourth consecutive World League title
Moscow, 27 August 2006 – Defending World League champions Brazil made it four in a row today after a thrilling five-set victory over France. In the bronze medal match, hosts Russia overcame the strong Bulgarian team to take the medal to the delight of the home crowd. Topping the individual awards was Brazil’s Giba as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

The champions’ head coach Bernardo Rezende was full of praise for the French team, who had battled through seven matches in nine days (including four five-set tie-breaks) before stumbling at the last hurdle. “The world of Volleyball is proud of France. They deserved to be here and have shown a great will to win over the past six years. We have a lot to improve and learn for the World Championships and France has taught us a lot.”
