Cuba collect bronze
Belgrade,
Serbia and Montenegro, July 10, 2005 – World number 16 Cuba returned to the World League
podium for the first time since 1999 (when
they won silver) after they beat Poland
(25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-13) in a
five set thriller to win the bronze medal on
Sunday.
The result was a reverse of the 3-2
(23-25, 26-24, 25-16, 22-25, 15-13) victory
to Poland on the opening finals day on
Friday and sees Cuba, who have competed in
15 World League tournaments, finish with
their second bronze medal and eighth medal
overall.
Poland, meanwhile, completed their
best ever finish in eight World League
campaigns finishing fourth.
