Brazil prepare to defend title
April
18, 2005 - Brazilian coach Bernardo Rezende has
announced that his squad for the 2005 World
League will gather at the Volleyball Development
Center in Rio de Janeiro on April 25 to start
preparing for the defence of their title.
The Olympic and world champions are red hot
favourites to take their third successive World
League title and fourth in five years, and
Bernardinho will no doubt leave no stone
unturned in his quest to keep Brazil’s magic
form – which has seen them win every men’s
international Volleyball title available since
2002 – running.
Seven players: Marcelinho, Henrique,
Rodrigão, Murilo, Dante, André and João Paulo
will be involved in the first training sessions
before Giba and Ricardinho arrive one week later.
"This session signals the beginning of training
for the international season,” Bernardinho said.
“Other sessions will be carried out subsequently".
Brazil have another busy schedule in 2005
despite not having to participate in the early
rounds of the 2006 World Championship due to
their status as defending champions. Their
calendar this year sees them defend their World
League title from May 27 to July 10 before
contesting the Copa America (August 2-7) in
Brazil; the South American Championship
(September 13-18) in Brazil as well and the
World Grand Champions Cup in November in Japan. |
