Poland out for revenge
 Lodz,
Poland, June 2, 2005 – Pool C’s top of the table
clash between Poland and Greece in Lodz starting
on Friday sees the home side out for revenge
after losing to Greece during pool play at the
2004 Olympics.
Both sides enter this weekend’s Intercontinental
second round having recording two victories on
the opening weekend – Poland beat Argentina,
Greece beat Serbia and Montenegro –and with
plenty of injury concerns, but for Poland coach
Raul Lozano, he is looking for an improved
performance from round one and to reverse the
result from Athens last year.
“During the last three days in Spala we have
worked really hard,” Lozano said. “We can’t deny
that these matches will be some kind of revenge
for us after our loss in Athens. I am sure will
make another step forward and show our true
potential. In reference to Greece’s injury
worries, I would like to add that we are also
lacking in key players, but that’s why we
allocated 18 players. It’s not the absent who
are important, but the skills of those 12
players who tomorrow will show their best. We
were forced to make one change in our line-up.
Instead of Winiarski who is sick, Sebastian
Swiderski will play.”
Greece coach Kostas Charitonidis said despite
his side’s injury problems he is hoping to add
to their victory tally against Poland.
“We will try to do our best,” he said. “We won
twice against Serbia & Montenegro, but we have
many new players – four players from the first
line-up during the Olympic Games in Athens are
unfortunately injured. I have great confidence
in my team who will try to present their best
side this weekend.”
Friday’s first match starts at 19:00 local time.
