Cuba
complete series whitewash of Greece
Athens,
Greece, May 23, 2005 – Cuba completed a
sensational build up to the 2005 World League by
winning their sixth friendly match out of seven
with a 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-11, 24-26, 15-8)
victory over Greece in their third and final
match in the Peace and Friendship stadium on
Monday.
Cuba had earlier beaten Greece 3-0 on Friday and
3-2 on Saturday after coming off a 3-1 series
win over Argentina.

There was some good news for Greece with captain
Marjos Gkiourdas’ injury improving significantly
enough for him to entertain the thought of
playing in the World League. Vasileios Kournetas
looks likely to captain the side for Greece’s
opening World League encounter against Serbia
and Montenegro in Athens.
"We didn’t play well enough again,” Greece coach
Konstas Charitonidis said. “However I was
satisfied with the players that gained some
valuable experience.” |
