World League 2005 News
Giani stops by on Italian preparations
Rome,
Italy, May 18, 2005 – Last year’s World League
runner’s up Italy welcomed former skipper Andrea
Giani into a team-building lunch session in Rome
on Wednesday.
With less than 10 days to go until the opening
whistle of the 2005 event, Italy had lunch
together in the presence of the inspirational
Giani, who, as one of the hardest spikers in the
game, played in 13 out of the 15 World League
editions played to date, starting in 1991 and
finishing last year with seven World League gold
medals in return plus three World Championship
gold medals, before embarking on a gym session
in the afternoon.

However it was not all good news for Italy ahead
of their opening match against France in Ragusa
with experienced setter Marco Meoni suffering a
muscle injury. He will stay with the team in
order to receive the best possible treatment but
coach Gian Paolo Montali has called in Giacomo
Sintini on standby.
