The performances by Frantz
Granvorka, the No 9 for France, in the 2002 World
Championships were spell biding
and a perfect illustration of the calibre of the young
man.
At 28, Granvorka served with precision and pace and was
an inspiration on court leading his country to an
incredible third place finish. His performance in last
year's World Championship saw him duly receive the Best
Server of the tournament award.
After 147 caps in the red, white and blue he still cuts
a colourful figure on court despite having shorn his
frizzy brown hair. Normally a change in hairstyle would
automatically make one stand out but amongst a team
renowned for their regular exchange of hair colour his
speedy darts from behind the base line are more a
familiar Granvorka trademark to look out for.
Once again France will be relying on Granvorka to
provide some easy points to see them through a pool
consisting of Japan, Bulgaria and Poland and improve on
last year's World League finish of 10th.
