Greece shuts out Japan in straight sets, to enter WL 2003 victoriously
Greece crushed Japan 3-0 in just over an hour in the Thracian city of Xanthi, in northern Greece to enter the Intercontinental Round 2003 World League victoriously. With Marios Giourdas leading the scorers list (14 points), Greece sailed past their opponents with characteristic ease.
"I am satisfied that we managed not to waste too much energy today and that we didn't drop a set," said Greece's head coach, Stelios Prosalikas, in the post-match Press Conference.
The home team got an early lead in the first set and never looked back, gradually widening the gap in the score. Only in the second set did Japan put up a little resistance, but Greece came back to tie the score at 16-16 and went on to close out the set to go two up in the match.
The third set was a walkover, as Greece once more comfortably sailed past its opponents for an exceptionally easy 25-16.
