Thirty-two-year-old Luc Marquet is France's oldest and most experienced player and brings to the young and eager France line up a sense of control and maturity.
With nearly 300 caps dating back to the 1992 Olympic Games Marquet is France personified. Passionate, wise and cultured, the James Bond fan from Lyon is a model of consistency on court and does well to reign in the irrepressible personalities, which surround him on court.
At only 192cm tall, French coach Philippe Blain has been using Marquet as a universal substitute, coming on at the perfect moment to steer a game back in France's favour or, as in during France's run to a bronze medal at the 2002 World Championship, playing occasionally in pool play before turning out in every game at the business end when experience and results matter most.
A fantastic character, who wears his volleyball results on his sleeve, Luc Marquet will continue to serve France well during this his fourth World League campaign.
