Nikalaos Roumeliotis

Australian-born Roumeliotis has matured quickly in a Greek side, which is timing its run superbly for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

The 24-year-old universal player joined captain Marios Gkiourdas to lead Greece to two ninth places in the last two editions of the World League and a surprising seventh-place finish at the 2002 World Championship in Argentina, a sure indication of their march towards Athens 2004. And in a decisive match at the Worlds against Portugal, Roumeliotis demonstrated his immense potential when he led the Greek attack to finish the match as his country's best scorer with 25 points.

Roumeliotis, who plays for Greek club side E.A.Patron in Patra, ended the tournament as the ninth best spiker and the 14th best scorer of the tournament, sending a signal about his determination and growing form ahead of the Olympics.

At 201cm he's not the tallest in the Greek line up but what he lacks in height he makes up for with determination and guile. And this year's World League will again be a perfect stage for Roumeliotis to improve those skills even further, especially against the likes of Pool D members France, Argentina and Japan.
