Serbia and Montenegro triumph after tough encounter with Bulgaria
Contesting their first at home match of the 2003 edition, Serbia and Montenegro emerged the winner after a tough encounter with traditional rival Bulgaria that saw both teams fight a battle of attrition for each point. Bulgaria counld have stolen the match on many occasions but in the end, experience, strong support by the spectators and some excellent play by Boskan in the all-important tiebreaker made the difference for the Olympic champions.

Aldazabal and Portuando led their team by wonderful serves and spiking before the Netherlands countered in the third and fourth set to set the game up for a cracker of a tiebreaker.
