Remarkable recover of the Netherlands surprises Serbia and Montenegro
Both the Netherlands and Serbia and Montenegro started with the same line up as in yesterday's match. After an equal start the Dutch reached the first technical time out and than went up to a difference of three points by good blocking of Nummerdor and van der Goor. Because the home team kept up the pressure on Serbia and Montenegro by strong serving and successfully blocking they took three setpoints. The Yugo's resist for some several points before Bontje finished for the Netherlands. Also in the second set the Dutch showed remarkable recover in their level of play. After a doubtful decision of the referee at 14-14, the Dutch rhythm seemed disturb. Serbia and Montenegro took advantage of that and scored three points in a row. Before the Netherlands could recover of that Serbia and Montenegro equalized in sets. The Netherlands seemed unsettled in the game and Goedkoop had to take right away his first time out in the beginning of the third set. After 2-6 down Schuil find some gaps in defense of Serbia and Montenegro, but still the Olympic Champions held the initiative. But the Dutch found energy to counter attack and Nummerdor, well supported by his teammates equalized at 16-16. In a thrilling end of the set the Netherlands turned the screws on and survived seven set points, before Schuil and Nummerdor made two fantastic scores by ending the set. The second set win gave the Netherlands the right spirit to move on. In front of an enthusiastic crowd the Dutch kept on playing very well by good blocking and serving while Schuil, Gortzen and Bontje showed fantastic spiking. Also the experienced players like the brothers Grbic and Vujevic couldn't chance the game anymore. At the end it was Bontje with three scores that complete the Dutch their remarkable success.
