France and Poland played out the final Pool F match in Belo Horizonte, knowing the result had no effect on advancement to the semifinals. They nevertheless put on an entertaining match, which, while won by the Poles, their first in the tournament, was still hard fought.
Both sides fought for every point in the opening set and at the first time out, the French had an 8-6 advantage, but the Poles gathered their strength to level at 10-10. The score was tied until the 26th point when effective Polish blocking then gave the team the set. The Poles were more confident in the second set and had the French die on the run. Effective blocking by the Polish team made the difference and allowed them a four-point advantage, enough edge to pull in front of the French 2-0. Poland kept up the pressure, forcing the service in the third and last set. With problems in the reception, the French team missed a lot of attacks and allowed eight points of forced errors to the opponent. /mh
