Brazil beat Portugal
Brazil overcame a strong Portuguese start to go on to a 3-0 victory over Portugal at home in their first match of Intercontinental Round 4.
The Portuguese charged into the match with a flurry of service aces that made them look dangerous even in front of 8,000 Brazilian fans.
Brazil soon found their rhythm and counterattacked with aggression to go on and take the first set 25-23 to unsettle the visitors going into the second set. The Portuguese started making errors, while Brazil changed tactics, using Gustavo to effect in the middle and putting André Nascimento into service and attack. The Brazilian head coach Bernardinho took advantage of the renewed confidence of his team to make some further changes in the third set to use Giovane in Giba's position. Brazil then turned up the heat and went on to seal the victory with a 7-point lead in the final set in just one hour and 13 minutes.
