A 3-1 Victory for Italy over Venezuela
Italy won 3-1 against Venezuela on Friday in Gorizia to collect their third consecutive victory in World League 2002.
A crowd of more than 3000 spectators urged Gravina and Co. on well in the first and second set and it appeared that they already had the match in the bag. with 25-21 and Venezuela flagging in the second to go down 25-18.
But Venezuela came back strongly in the third, running up a six-point advantage, pushed by the mighty Gomez. Italy retaliated bringing on Fei and Zlatanov from the bench to try to close the gap, but Venezuela went on to take the third set 25-22. From then on it was Italy's night and they wrapped up the final set 25-21 in one hour 41 minutes, with setter Vermiglio and Venezuela's Gomes sharing honors as best players of the match.
