World League 2002 - Press Info

Match Descriptive

Russia beat Germany 3-2 (25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 13-25, 17-15) - duration 2:17
28-Jul, start time: 11:00, end time: 13:17 - Attendance: 2,300
Russia even today too strong for the German team
1st set:
Like yesterday the Russian team had the better start. They began with Maxim Tereshin for Roman Iakovlev and Taras Khtei for Serguei Tetiokhine. With a good service of Taras Khtei and Andrei Egortchev Russia quickly was leading with 16:8. So the German team did not find their way to the match and lost the first set with 18:25.

2nd set:
German coach Stelian Moculescu started the second set with Ralph Bergmann for Norbert Walter and Michael Mayer for Marco Liefke as well as Ilja Wiederschein for Frank Dehne. The three "new ones" fitted well into the team. Christian Pampel could make 4 aces in a row to have a leading of 14:10 and the base for the winning of the second set.

3rd set:
The third set started without any favour for Russia or Germany. A decision of a linesmen brought Russia the needed advantage of 16:12. The German team did not agree with this decision and even got a yellow card. So the leading of the Russian team was holding up to the end of the third set won by Russia.

4th set:
The German team started excellent into the fourth set and was leading 8:2 based on powerful attack and block. So the Russian attack was not as effective and the German team won the set with 25:13.

5th set:
Russia achived an easy advantage after 4:4 with three points, reasoned by two points outside of the field by Christian Pampel. Stelian Moculescu changed then Sven Glinker for Christian Pampel and the German team again came up to the 9:9. Russia could not realize the first two match points but the third one was successful to win the set with 17:15 and the match by 3:2.
