Press Release
Serbia end US winning streak as Brazil and Italy put on volleyball master class

Serbia celebrate as they down USA in Japan on Sunday
Lausanne, Switzerland, August 14, 2011 – USA’s winning streak in the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix was brought to an end on Sunday as the defending champions were seen off by Serbia while Brazil and Italy, silver and bronze medallists in last year’s tournament respectively, put on an epic match with the South American’s coming out on top as the penultimate weekend of the 19th edition of the competition concluded.

Despite the loss the US still claimed Pool H in Japan and look set to seal a spot at the finals in Macau, China.

Meanwhile, Japan beat Dominican Republic, Germany saw off Peru, Thailand defeated Kazakhstan, world champions Russia remained unbeaten with a win over China, Poland ended on a high with a win over Cuba and Korea swept past Argentina.

“We came out flat in the first set, but played better volleyball in the second set,” USA captain Jennifer Tamas said. “We had a lot of unforced errors. Now we have to get the ball rolling again. We will go to Hong Kong and try to play better volleyball.”
