Italy end Brazilian invincibility in 2010 FIVB Grand Prix

Italy celebrate their victory over the Olympic champions
São Carlos, Brazil, August 8 – Italy dealt Brazil their first loss of the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix as the defending champions went down 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19) at home in Sao Carlos on Sunday.
 
Brazilian opposite Natália Pereira topped the score board with 21 points while wing spiker Francesca Piccinini scored 15 points for the visitors.

Italy began the game with good serves and an efficient attack before Brazil came back into the game following a fabulous serve from captain Fabiana. However Italy regained momentum to evetually see out the set.

Italy kept their rhythm in the second set to take the lead up to the second technical time out. Two aces from middle blocker Fabiana brought Brazil within three points of the European champions but a late charge from Italy delivered them the set.

Brazil began the third set better, serving and blocking with efficiency as the Olympic champions forced Italy to make errors. Opposite Natália scored the final point of the set as Brazil pulled one back to the delight of the home fans.

Italy upped the intensity in the fourth with powerful serves as they took the lead. They maintained control, increasing their lead to see out the match.

Next week Brazil travel to Macau to play Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and China while Italy travel to Thailand to play USA, Puerto Rico and the hosts
