Chinese Taipei fall to Brazil

Chinese Taipei prepare ahead of their match against Brazil

Chinese Taipei, Taipei City, August 21, 2010 - Defending champions Brazil clinched an easy straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) win over hosts Chinese Taipei in the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix.

Brazil decided to use their lesser-known players as libero Fabiana de Oliveira and Sheilla Castro sat out the match.

The spectators cheered hard for the home side despite falling to an early deficit. Trying to take as many points as possible, Chinese Taipei was determined to give Brazil a tought time as the scores stayed close. Brazil tried to pull out after the first TTO while the hosts refused to let the ball land with one hit.  As Brazil hit a few more balls too long, the home side was able to come closer with more confident combinations. However they eventually succumbed to an early loss.

Chinese Taipei surprised the South Americans with a number of touch-outs to take a brief lead in the third set by 4-3, 5-4. But Brazil regained the lead and took the set.

The Brazil block was too strong for the hosts in the third as the Brazil piled on the pressure as they eventually secured the win.

On Sunday Brazil face Poland as Chinese Taipei play Puerto Rico.
