The Netherlands pick up second win in 2010 World Grand Prix
The Nether3ands prepare to take on Puerto Rico in their second 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix match
Chengdu, China, August 7, 2010— The Netherlands scored their second victory of the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix as they picked up a straight-sets (25-9, 25-12, 25-21) win over Puerto Rico in Chengdu, China on Saturday.
The Dutch came out strong in the first set, utilising their solid spikes and clever blocks to take the lead. They maintained control and never allowed the Puerto Ricans to come into the match, closing their attacking game out to secure an early advantage.
The European side maintained control in the second set and took full advantage of Puerto Rico's errors, as Dijkema Laura's blocks proved too much for the Caribbean team as they struggled to gain rhythm, losing the second set.
Puerto Rico finally found their momentum in the third thanks to a number of powerful serves from Crue Aurea. However the Netherlands fought back and found the same form that guided them to victory in the two previous sets, as they eventually prevailed to secure a second victory in the tournaments opening weekend.
In the third day of the World Grand Prix, Netherlands will play against host China, while the Puerto Ricans face Thailand.
