Ningbo, China, August 27, 2010 – Two-time defending champions Brazil will face the United States in a repeat of Beijing Olympic final on the third day of 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round on Friday with Japan to meet Italy and China play Poland.
The Brazilians topped the preliminary round standings with an 8-1 record, followed by USA on 7-2, while the two teams did not clash with each other in the preliminaries.
FIVB World Grand Prix
USA now has two wins against no loss in the Final Round as Brazil recovered from an opening 3-2 upset loss to Japan to overcome Poland 3-1 on Thursday.
Poland, who have dropped two matches in a row in the Final Round, desperately needs a win for the match against China. In their eight previous encounters at World Grand Prix events, the Chinese had a comfortable 6-2 advantage, but the Polish team held a better win-loss record of 7-2 in the preliminary round, compared with 6-3 for China.
The other match of Friday will feature World Grand Prix dark horses Japan and 2009 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup winners Italy, who were crushed by the United States 3-0 in Thursday’s opening match. The Japanese will rely on their leading scorers Yukiko Ebata and Saori Kimura in pursuit of another upset.
