Cuba is a four-time champion at Pan American Cup

COLIMA, Mexico, June 29, 2007 - Cuba once again proved that there is no substitute for experience and won the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup for the fourth time in six years.
The poised Olympic bronze medallists took the title at the sixth edition of the intercontinental event by teaching a volleyball lesson to the Junior Team of Brazil. They won in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-20. The Cubans employed their trademark strong serves to neutralize the Brazilian squad during a match that lasted just 69 minutes. Daimi Ramirez, Rosir Calderon and Yumilka Ruiz led Cuba with 11, 10 and 9 points respectively and Natalia Pereira had 13 tallies for Brazil.
"It is great for us to win for the fourth time and I think we played good overall volleyball tonight so I can not point out one specifically aspect of the game," said Ruiz after the match. "We are now prepared for the Pan American Games."
"I am very proud of the second position of my team and this Pan American Cup has been a great experience for us in our preparation for the Junior World Championship," said Luizomar Moura, the Brazilian coach.
In the match for the bronze medal, Dominican Republic beat United States in four sets (25-19, 26-28, 25-18, 28-26). Cindy Rondon and Milagros Cabral combined for 38 points carrying the Dominican team. Rondon had 20 points and Cabral added 18 while Bethania de la Cruz had 16.
In the semi finals, Brazil defeated USA 25-15, 25-15, 25-18, and Cuba beat Dominican Republic 28-26, 25-22, 25-18. The four teams qualified to the FIVB 2008 World Grand Prix.
